continues war crimes against humanity are committed in South Yemen

An appeal letter to the regional and international organisations
United Nation Security Council
35th October 2005
Dear Sir/Madam
RE: continues war crimes against humanity are committed in South Yemen

We would like to draw your attention to the current situation in South Yemen and remind you that the North Yemeni Regime have launched a comprehensive war against South Yemen, which resulted in the full military occupation of the South on July 7th 1994. From this date Southerners have been living under the Northern military occupation. Their private and public properties, lands and wealth have become booty for the Northern warlords who have been ruling the country for 11 years. During those years Southerners have been experiencing all sorts of repression, deprivation from their national wealth and employment. What is worse is that many employees were coercively given early retirement and some were forced to stay at home and join what is called “Stay at home party” without actual work. Southerners are systematically deprived from their legitimate rights to proper education especially further and higher education they are also refused to enter the military academy and gain foreign scholarships. We are sure that the day will come soon when we wouldn’t find any southerners working for the military institution particularly after the process forcing current employees into early retirement is complete. Furthermore Southerners are facing cruel discrimination and dismissal from their jobs regularly. For instance the latest incident that occurred to employees within the diplomatic and military institution is a good example.

Southerners have become a disadvantaged minority living under absolute poverty. Many families go to public waste bin to look for food and for those dignified people who can’t find treatment for curable illnesses and can’t stand the humiliation and repression are dying silently.

The Northern occupiers have turned the South into a military Zone to oppress and murder the Southerners without any right whatsoever. Below are just some of the latest brutal practices of the Northern military regime, which you can also access through www.soutalgnoub.com/vb:

The military-tribal regime that rules North Yemen and occupies South Yemen had committed and still committing war crimes against humanity. Lately, the regime has carried out brutal carnage against his people in Sa’adah governorate and middle regions in the North. The regime has also committed and continues to commit crimes against innocents Southerners since July 7th 1994.

There is an organised state terrorism lead by Ali Abdullah Saleh against the people of the South. Some Southerners get murders in the country some especially young people are brainwashed and incited by the regime to go and carry out suicidal bombing in Iraq and end up being killed with other innocent people. Therefore the main aims of the regime are to:

- get rid of the young Southerners by sending them to their death
- directly participate in encouraging terrorism and export it from Yemen to Iraq in order to fail the building of security and stability in Iraq. Reports published by the American stated that there were more than 500 Yemeni young men who participate in terrorism act in Iraq. Some of those who were killed are as follows:

1- Basam Ahmed Saif, 22 years of age from Al-mua’ala governorate in South Yemen. He was killed in Almousal, Iraq. For more details refer to Alayyam Newspaper dated 13/12/2004.

The Southern Democratic Assembly (TAJ) holds the president Ali Abdullah Saleh and the leadership of the Northern occupation directly responsible for what has happened and happening now. The war crimes and destruction against the people of the South are a strong evidence of the violation of human rights and clear breach to the international human rights convention.

We demand the international community with its different organisations, nation states, parties, parliaments, the Amnesty International and other human rights organisation to intervene in order to protect the people of South Yemen from the continues killings before the situation escalate into something like what happened in Darfore or into another Somalia.

Therefore we request the International community to bring those tyrants to the court of international justice.

In this occasion we would like to urge the Security Council to implement its two resolutions 924 and 931 issued during the war of summer 1994 against the North Yemeni Regime.

We call for the United Nation to boycott and impose embargo till the regime comply with the two resolutions aforementioned, the rule of international law, and respect the rights of Southerners for Self-determination. The regime should end the occupation by full withdrawal of the military from our homeland.

Yours Faithfully

Dr Abdullah Ahmed
Chairman of the Southern Democratic Assembly
