SAN'A, Yemen (AP) - Yemen's ruling party has rejected the opposition's attempts to amend the country's electoral law.
Abdul-Rahman Bafadl of the Islamist opposition Islah party describes the defeat of the amending bill in parliament as a «a blow to the understanding reached among the parties.
Yemen's political parties have been preparing the amendment to the
law for the past year in effort to bring more women into parliament, curb vote-rigging and limit the influence of government officials.

One of the measures included expanding the election's supervisory body to include members of the opposition.
Parliament speaker Yahia al-Rai said the bill was rejected Monday because the opposition didn't name its nominees for the supervisory committee.
