The government responded to several days of demonstrations and riots in southern [فقط الأعضاء المسجلين والمفعلين يمكنهم رؤية الوصلات . إضغط هنا للتسجيل] by sending tanks into the streets. Disaffected youths and former military officers have been protesting the government’s failure to keep a promise to readmit southerners, who lost a civil war here 14 years ago, into the army.
In the past week, tens of thousands of people demonstrated in the southern city of Dhalae, and two police stations and military vehicles were burned there. On Tuesday, rioting continued and youths burned tires in Dhalae, above. The government has arrested at least 120 people, and sent in tanks after six protesters were injured in clashes with the police, witnesses said.
